Help and Company is registered as a Provider of personal care with the CQC. As part of that registration we also have to register a Registered Manager.

A registered manager (in this case Helen Shepherd) is the person appointed by Help and Company to manage the regulated activities of the business.

As a registered person, the registered manager has legal responsibilities in relation to that position and shares the legal responsibility for meeting the requirements of the relevant regulations and enactments with the provider.

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is the UK's independant body which was set up to uphold information rights.

The Data Protection Act 1998 requires every organisation that processes personal information to register with the ICO, unless they are exempt. Failure to do so is a criminal offence.

There are more than 400,000 registered data cotrollers and the names and addresses, as well as a description of what they do, are published by the ICO.

On 25 May 2018 a massive change in the way companies must handle data, and the rights that consumers have, came into force.

This new regulation is called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and it is applicable across the EU.

In the UK, those regulations will be incorporated into the Data Protection Act 2018 – the Bill is currently going through Parliament.

It builds on the current Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and will strengthen the legislation, giving you more rights and protections.

We are insured through Towergate MIA under an insurance policy dedicated to the care sector. The policy is issued through Markel (UK) Ltd under policy number TDC000086.  It is renewable on the 24th May of each year.

The relevant limits of liability are:-

Employer’s Liability - £10,000,000

Public Liability - £10,000,000

Professional Indemnity - £2,000,000
